Electrical Rewiring in San Jose or Los Angeles Counties

Electrical Rewiring san joseIf your home is being rebuilt after a fire or other disaster, or you're renovating, remodeling, or have simply outgrown your home's electricity capacity, it's time for a home rewiring project.

Improperly installed or defective wiring, circuit breakers, outlets or switches can lead to death by electrocution or fire. That's why you should only work with a Los Angeles or San Jose electrical contractor when launching a home rewiring project.

There are National and California State electrical codes that dictate exact specifications that must be met in order for your home rewiring project to pass inspection.

These codes cover things like the maximum number of outlets, switches and appliances that can be on one circuit breaker, as well as the minimum and maximum rating for any particular circuit breaker.

The code also covers where Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) devices must be installed, how far outlets can be from the floor, and the maximum circuit run length between outlets.

Code also specifies the minimum type and gauge of wiring that can be used. But often times the minimum gauge is not sufficient for your home's electrical requirements.

For example; typical standard use home residential circuits require only 14-2 wire. This is you're a commonly-used cable consisting of a black, white and bare ground wire. These circuits usually terminate at a 15-amp circuit breaker in your electrical supply panel.

However, if you have a particular circuit that, say, will be powering hair dryers and electric curlers in the bathrooms of two teenage daughters and a mom, a 12-2 cable tied to a 20 amp circuit breaker will lead to less trips to the utility panel to reset a blown breaker when everyone is getting ready at the same time.

The same is true for circuits that will run power tools or heat-generating small appliances like toasters that are running the same time the microwave and waffle iron is.

Another major consideration when planning a residential electrical rewiring project in San Jose or Los Angeles is the size of your electrical service panel. A good rule of thumb is: Bigger is better.

There is no such thing as having too many available circuit breaker slots. So, the chances are good your Los Angeles electrical contractor is going to recommend a minimum 200 amp circuit breaker panel with enough capacity to handle 40 circuit breakers.

You may not need all the capacity now but, when you do, you'll be glad that you thought ahead.

Between all of the code requirements, cable and circuit breaker options, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your electrical rewiring project was done safely and professionally, it's easy to see that using an experienced licensed, bonded and insured Los Angeles County electrical contractor to do your rewiring project is the best choice.
